    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was an audit associate completing tasks such as testing the clients cash in bank or fixed assets on their register was complete and accurate using third party support such as bank statements or invoices or physically seeing assets were in use for example. The role is a hybrid of in-person and work from home depending on the clients you work on.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Learnt loads about accountancy, what it is how reasonable assurance is provided for during audits. I don’t have an audit background but feel now I could talk about and complete the testing on almost all balance sheet and profit/ lose figures. My communication skills have massively increased both with clients and colleagues whilst also maintaining grammar and writing skills that are valuable for my final year of university.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes definitely, once we were trained on areas of the audit we were given ownership of these areas to complete by a deadline. Once my experience had grown my expectations also did so I would say you could always handle the responsibility- only if you worked hard as you was challenged a lot.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot, I made several key friends in more senior positions who were a good source of guidance and support. There’s also your PEL (People Leader) who provides support both technical and emotional support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Good, the Leeds office has a strong bond and the socials were great fun and always a source of something to look towards. The office was very approachable and I certainly enjoyed working there as opposed to my home, which I had the option to. Senior colleagues could seem intimidating at work but all were extremely friendly and hopeful once you approached them.

  • 7. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • Research the company, do the basics right as with any application but for Deloitte specifically I found having other application processes go before Deloitte whether that be cognitive, numeric or interview stages made me much more comfortable doing the Deloitte interview. I just worked really hard to answer the questions as best as I thought Deloitte wanted me to using past feedback on similar activities and YouTube content that helped. And be yourself (interview)!
