Women in Tech - Deloitte Insight Review

The programme was a 2 day insight event at the London Deloitte office. It included numerous tasks such as workshops, group work, information sessions and Q&As. For example we had the opportunity to talk to different women who worked in technology at Deloitte and they gave us an insight into their roles. Also, there were professional development workshops where we talked about building confidence and other things. Also some seniors spoke to us too.

I learnt and developed numerous skills during the insight event. They held workshops on personal development and confidence and this allowed me to refine these skills. Additionally, on the last day we had to work in a team to create a presentation. Working with people I had just met the day before allowed me to further improve my confidence as well as collaboration skills. Also we had to present this to an employee in the company which I found to be good practice.

It was really interesting and engaging when we learnt about the business and the roles available. They introduced Deloitte as a company however ensured that we weren’t just being spoken at and instead made it interactive with everyone in the room. Additionally we had multiple ways of learning about the potential roles. For example we had a small group Q&A session, did our own research and had the opportunity to ask questions individually after the sessions. We gained a clear understanding of the roles in an interesting way.

From what I saw and heard it seemed that the culture and atmosphere at Deloitte was very good and positive. When asking some employees questions they talked about the supportive and friendly culture and said that any negatives were outweighed by the positives. However, as it was a 2 day insight we did not really experience any culture and atmosphere ourselves so it seemed positive from an outsiders perspective. But everyone I spoke to was very friendly.

I really enjoyed the insight for numerous reasons. Firstly the opportunity to meet the other individuals on this programme and connect with them was invaluable. Secondly the tasks organised by the team were very interesting and engaging, make it more enjoyable than just a series of lectures. Additionally, they the short networking session and dinner was extremely enjoyable as we were able to connect with employees and talk to them about any questions we had. Overall it was very enjoyable.

The first thing I would say is be your authentic self. If you pretend to be someone else you may not enjoy it as much or fit in as well. Deloitte values soft skills and personality so I would say any future people that are applying should hone these skills and have interview examples ready. These include collaboration, integrity and kindness etc. Secondly I think basic maths and verbal reasoning skills are important as they are transferable, so practicing these before will be very useful.
