    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • At the start it was mostly shadowing, but after a few months I was able to independently see the patients and take their samples. There was always a nurse/medic present if needed but if the patients were happy I could conduct the visit independently. On wards I was always supervised. In the lab I was completely independent and on some days was the only staff member working so had a lot of responsibility.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NHS
  • Keep an eye out for placement adverts because they can be competitive and it's better to get your application in sooner. Also be vocal at any interviews about what you expect from the role. Maybe ask for a tour of the workplace beforehand to get a better idea of how to work your application.
