    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role working in the Retail Lease Advisory team at Savills was to assist my line manager with all active job instructions. On a day-to-day basis this included finding and analysing comparable valuation evidence which often involved phoning other agents for information. It also included liaising with clients, negotiation against opposing agents, attending client meetings and lots more.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Over the course of my year working at Savills I developed a variety of skills including my presentation skills, negotiation and communication. This was a result of regular exposure to a variety of clients and opposing agents in a commercial environment, which allowed me to develop these skills in particular.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my year in Retail Lease Advisory I worked very closely with my line manager and was therefore provided with a high level of responsibility. I was given the platform with the right support if necessary to carry out tasks and negotiate deals on my own.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received support and guidance from not only my line manager, but from the wider division and wider company. Over the course of the year I received placement/graduate training days, HR guidance, APC counsellor/supervisor sessions and felt comfortable seeking advice/guidance off the majority of people within the business where appropriate.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • People from all backgrounds and stages in their career within the business are always friendly, whether that is simply having a chat in the kitchen whilst making a coffee or being willing to sit down and take time out of their day to perhaps explain more about what they do. As one of many young people within the business, this really helps connect everyone and creates a positive friendly environment for everyone to work within.
