    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responsible for assisting the residential valuation team in researching & writing valuation reports. Running calculations and conducting market research, speaking with agents and brokers and managing client relationships.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Given a lot of responsibility from day one. Expected to manage workflows and liaise with clients to manage expectations and keep them updated. Generally worked independently while researching and writing valuation reports, then expected to justify one's calculations and reasoning to a director. Expected to call agents and brokers and conduct our own market research.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Received a lot of support and guidance, both from the team I was placed in and from the HR team. In many respects, placement students are treated as though they are part of the wider graduate cohort, and as a result we benefitted from all the same training and support that graduates received.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A very healthy and friendly corporate culture. I was oftentimes tasked with speaking to senior directors in other teams in order to gather information or opinions - they were always very friendly and helpful, even when I lacked experience and knowledge of the industry. Strong graduate culture with lots of graduate social events in which placement students are invited and encouraged to participate.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Enjoyed my placement year and made connections that I hope to take forward through my career. Learnt a lot and met some fantastic people. I would have liked to have gained experience in a variety of teams, as is done on the rotational graduate scheme.

  • Savills is very open to people from a wide range of backgrounds - specific knowledge of real estate is not necessarily required. Just show your interest in the industry, the company and what you can bring to the company.
