    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I assisted members of my team with their work, and had their tasks explained to me as they did them. This included a variety of things, like local market research, floor area calculations, written report work, reading/checking report documents, creating graphs and gathering comparables to make valuations. I also went on site visits to various properties to take measurements and carry out inspections. The recruitment team also organise departmental overviews for most days and networking events, which were a great way to socialise with the other interns and staff.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed lots of new skills, surrounding housing valuation, research and Excel. I have also improved my interpersonal skills, that have helped me to work in a team and network within the business. The summer scheme has also helped me develop my professionalism and adaptability, as I have had to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the perfect amount of responsibility. Some of my work will be used in final reports, but my team ensured I hand done the task beforehand and was therefore capable. Where I had responsibility, I was encouraged to talk things through with them and ask questions. I never felt like I was under lots of pressure, but also felt like I was doing valuable work that was helping the team.

  • I received a lot of support from my team and the graduate team, who met with me for a mid-placement review to ensure I was ok. My team were so friendly and made me feel welcome. I was encouraged to ask questions and get involved in different tasks, without feeling like a burden.
