    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Summer intern based in the consultancy team within London Residential Development. I helped update and create comparable scheme data in order to accurately price and consult developers on new schemes across London. My day-to-day involved working with Excel, creating PowerPoints for clients, gathering information from data bases and through contact with other agents, sitting in on meetings, as well as getting out the office to visit development sites at different stages of construction in Prime and Central London.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed a lot of skills. Aside from improving technical proficiency in areas such as Excel, I have also developed my interpersonal skills, time management skills, networking skills as well as obviously massively broadening my knowledge of the industry and area and having the ability to apply this knowledge accordingly.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The level of responsibility grew in line with the trust I gained from my team. It is completely irrational to expect to turn up and be given responsibility from the off, but as I became more competent with the tasks I was being handed, I was given more responsibility. By the end of the month, my work was going straight to clients and I was being trusted to source information independently.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The team were all very approachable and I felt comfortable to ask them any questions or go to any of them for advice so the support was always there if I needed it.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was very approachable and friendly and the office environment was a good blend of chattiness but work-focussed. It is a firm that seems to put its staff first and that is reflected in the retainment rate that Savills has.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. It was my first experience of the kind and I wouldn't have changed anything about it. The work was meaningful but not overwhelming and there was also networking opportunities as well as the opportunity to gain insights into other departments. The only slight downside in any aspect was that a lot of the networking opportunities and department insights were over Zoom which restricts your ability to properly interact but other than that it was a very enjoyable experience.
