    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My daily function as an Industrial Placement Student fluctuates. I am always juggling numerous pieces of work at once, so you work more on certain things than others - it is all relative. I have a variety of roles; some are internal, such as organising events for colleagues in my Op-Unit or assisting in the creation of resources such as accelerators and assets for Deloitte to use for future clients, and others are client-facing, such as working with my client team to create and submit deliverables for our project.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • So many "soft consulting skills" have been taught to me. These range from studying technical abilities such as python, SQL, Tableu, and so on to learning how to construct high-quality PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and Word documents. Most importantly, I learned to communicate like a consultant! It is like learning a new language that you can only learn if you immerse yourself in it. It can be perplexing at first, but you learn as you go. You also learn how to communicate with and address different levels of seniority within the company.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Individuals who are in the lowest possible grade levels have been assigned a great deal of responsibility. If you are provided with a task to complete by anyone in particular, you are liable and responsible for its accomplishment - even those in the most senior grades expect you to do the best you can in everything you do. You are additionally obligated to consistently strive to surpass those of grow, and take on more responsibilities with the goal that you can acquire knowledge through experience.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Thanks very much! Friends and Instructors are assigned to you immediately before you enrol and for at least a three-month period after you join. These are informal points of contact where you can learn about the firm in a safe setting from others who have recently been in your situation. Then there are People Leaders who take a more official interest in your career. They represent you in year-end reviews (which determine your promotions) and keep you on track with your goals and objectives throughout your time with the company so you may grow - they are usually much more senior than you, so you can benefit from their experience.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone feels appreciated for what they do for themselves in their place of employment, and the culture encourages individuals to learn how to create limits. The corporate environment had an extraordinarily progressive and current attitude on work/life balance. Everyone in the teams that I worked on and the friends that I have made have been watching out for one another. Everyone wants the other person to succeed, and that's how our business gets better and better every year.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Never before have I grown and discovered more about myself than I did this year. The "real" reality of the workplace and the direction my career can go have both been dramatically impacted by this encounter. I have developed incredible relationships with people from all walks of life who I am confident I can turn to for help at any point in the future. I am eager to return to school, take full use of my final year now that I know what's available, and maybe graduate with a graduate offer!

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • Considering Deloitte is a huge company, you should carefully research each job posting to ensure that the division you are applying to aligns with your own objectives. People are always happy to converse with you and share details about how their daily lives are. There are virtually all jobs imaginable. It can be challenging to switch teams or groups after you have a career at Deloitte, especially if the transition is significant (audit to financial advisory or consulting, for example).
