    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Day-to-day I was involved in a range of different tasks which meant I never got bored. I was involved in client phone calls where I took notes and would feed these back at the end, learn and improve my excel skills on compliance work, understand guidelines and being involved in writing memos that would be reviewed and then be sent off to clients. Furthermore, I was involved in HMRC disputes which were unique and therefore interesting to always be invited to join- it was easy to get a range of different experiences in the broad tax area

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my inter-personal skills where I have had to introduce myself and get to know people from a range of different backgrounds and experiences- this has been improved since having to be on different projects with colleagues who specialise in different areas- everyone was so easy to approach! I have had to also face microsoft excel which at first was definitely a challenge but since I have grown to be amazed with how much you can really achieve on there and have since joined many courses to learn more

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my internship. There was definitely an expectation already set to show why I was chosen from many other candidates and so from that I was happy to take on lots of jobs and limit my capacity to truly excel in the tasks I was given. I was trusted to complete client work and check over work from colleagues and due to this, I feel as though I was able excel at a faster rate

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a buddy and a people leader. Both these roles were vital in ensuring my happiness and growth during the internship. My buddy was lovely and would ensure I was enjoying myself, always was at hand to help if I had any problems! She was also available if my capacity (workload) was limited and I needed tasks to keep me going. My people leader was great at ensuring I knew what I wanted to achieve from my placement and would regularly check in to make sure I was growing in my placement and as a person

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was definitely more relaxed than I thought it was going to be! My office in particular wore relaxed clothing and everyone was very friendly with one another. It was very easy to blend in and introduce myself because everyone greeted the interns with smiles and were happy to have us involved. The company is obviously massive and global with lots of different levels and grades, however, I never once felt like people more senior to me felt more entitled!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship! I definitely feel I have had a taste of my future work life and that I have grown as a person. I have also definitely made friends for life on my placement, for instance, in my first few days induction, I was able to meet all the interns from all the offices! This was a great opportunity to network and meet new people in the exact same position as me! This was a massive aspect I will always remember and appreciate
