    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Every day, we met with newly qualified and trainee solicitors from a variety of departments, such as serious injury, medical negligence, and RCG, over coffee. Throughout the week, we were also given assignments that we had to turn in at the end of each day. These assignments mirrored those provided to trainees in the corporate, real estate, corporate, TTE, and WTED departments as well as the departments dealing with medical malpractice. Aside from hearing consumer testimonials, we also had the chance to ask questions whenever we wanted to.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Due to the fact that we spoke to several corporate employees every day during the week, it helped us improve our communication and interpersonal skills. It helped us learn how to manage our time better because we had to fit our daily duties in between other commitments and make sure we had enough time set aside to finish them on time. Finally, the duties challenged us to think tactically at times in order to achieve the greatest outcome for our client, which aided in the development of commercial awareness.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Irwin Mitchell was the subject of a week that was quite educational. Every coffee meet-up we had with solicitors and some of our online conversations provided us with insightful and detailed information about the industry and the daily challenges of working for the organisation. Every debate offered the chance to ask questions and follow-up inquiries could be directed to the individual in question. The early careers team and our buddies were both very helpful and effectively explained the position we hoped to obtain. The whole thing gave me a better understanding of what the job would involve.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Irwin Mitchell definitely lived up to and exceeded its reputation for having a terrific culture; everyone there was nice and accommodating. The atmosphere was quite laid-back; staff members didn't wear sharp suits; instead, they wore jeans and t-shirts in accordance with its dress for your day guideline. The main issue was the office's emptiness; as a result of their flexible by choice policy, it appears the majority of the employees prefers to work from home, which naturally affects the environment at the workplace.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Overall, I had a great time during the week. Since I had never done anything like before, I was initially rather intimidated, but the people and Irwin Mitchell quickly made me feel at ease. Every day was different, and while I preferred working in some departments over others, this had to be expected and is representative of what a training contract would be like since you might not have complete control over the seats you hold. I would advise anyone considering applying to the company to look into the programme.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell
  • Make sure you thoroughly investigate the company and its culture, as Irwin Mitchell is all about this. Refresh your knowledge of your abilities, and utilise examples whenever you can. Most importantly, be yourself; a large part of the application process is about determining whether you would be a good fit for the company, which is just as crucial — if not more so — than determining whether you have the necessary abilities to be a trainee solicitor.
