Legal Intern Review

Every day, we met with newly qualified and trainee solicitors from a variety of departments, such as serious injury, medical negligence, and RCG, over coffee. Throughout the week, we were also given assignments that we had to turn in at the end of each day. These assignments mirrored those provided to trainees in the corporate, real estate, corporate, TTE, and WTED departments as well as the departments dealing with medical malpractice. Aside from hearing consumer testimonials, we also had the chance to ask questions whenever we wanted to.

Due to the fact that we spoke to several corporate employees every day during the week, it helped us improve our communication and interpersonal skills. It helped us learn how to manage our time better because we had to fit our daily duties in between other commitments and make sure we had enough time set aside to finish them on time. Finally, the duties challenged us to think tactically at times in order to achieve the greatest outcome for our client, which aided in the development of commercial awareness.

The main issue was the office's emptiness; as a result of their flexible by choice policy, it appears the majority of the employees prefers to work from home, which naturally affects the environment at the workplace.

Overall, I had a great time during the week. Since I had never done anything like before, I was initially rather intimidated, but the people and Irwin Mitchell quickly made me feel at ease. Every day was different, and while I preferred working in some departments over others, this had to be expected and is representative of what a training contract would be like since you might not have complete control over the seats you hold. I would advise anyone considering applying to the company to look into the programme.
