    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day you were introduced to a different practice area by a partner and/or associate from one of the offices. You then had the day to complete the 'typical trainee' task that was issued as well as manage your time to fit in other pre-planned talks from other practice areas and any chats/coffees you were able to arrange yourself.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Invaluable! It was a great way to be get a taste of multiple practice areas, really understand the culture and the people in the firm and also how, in a post-pandemic world, a hybrid WFH/office-based training contract would work in practice

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The office was a bit quiet, as IM have a hybrid working policy. So in the main it was only the trainees that seemed to come to the office every day. However, some teams did operate 'anchor days' - and the office was definitely more 'buzzy' then. This does mean that people are very willing to chat over Teams and access to the senior team is perhaps easier now (or at least less intimidating than having to go over to them in person!)

  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell
  • Be yourself, but try in every answer you give (whether it be in an interview or on the application) to link it back to IM and/or clients. The interview questions are often hypothetical/scenario based and it can be easy to reply in the same. However, before answering try and think about why IM would be asking you this and then link your answer back to why it is important for the firm
