    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day starts off with a daily standup meeting with the whole team. This is set up to discuss any progress and problems the team is facing. The meeting acts as an update session. As intern, I am working on a contained project with two other members of the team. We have a daily meeting on zoom to update each other about our progress. I also receive help and feedback on the work I produced.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During the internship, I massively improved both my soft and hard skills. In terms of hard skills, I was able to develop my technical skills. I learnt how to use git for version control. I learnt how to create branches and create a pull request. I also learn how to use spark SQL. At the end of the internship, I will be required to do a presentation. Having discussions with my mentors about successful presentations and them providing me with tips has vastly improved my presentation skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given more responsibility on this placement compared to my previous shorter (around 2 weeks) work experiences. I felt like I was treated as an equal to the team. I was given a project to finish by the end of the internship, but I was also provided with the support needed to complete it. If it has any questions, members of my team were more than happy to jump on a zoom call to help me solve my problems.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was provided with weekly mentor sessions during my internship program to help me navigate working life. The mentors supported me with providing me career advice - we talked about working within a team, importance of communication, cv and future career advice. I also had meetings with my manager scheduled in to discuss how the internship was going. We discussed topics such as workload and difficulty. She was able to make adjustments based on my needs.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • At moody they have a great company culture. Everyone is friendly and will make the effort to make you feel welcomed. My manager set up team dinners and HR sets up intern events which will help you get to know your colleagues outside of the working environment. Moodys also had a summer party in June for all employees across the company which was also a nice social event to get to know employees outside of your team.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship very much. The internship provided me with more support than anticipated. My manager and team were very understanding which made it a pleasant place to work. HR hosted events for the interns which was both very informative and interactive. I found that I learnt and grown so much since starting this internship. HR also hosted social events for the interns which was also an enjoyable aspect of the internship program as it enabled me to meet new people going through a similar experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Moody's
  • Have a strong CV that matches the skills on the job description. Whilst preparing for the interview, be prepared to describe your how your skills align with the job description and why you would be a suitable candidate. Also, focus on describing your soft skills as well as your hard skills. I would also say be confident and do not be afraid to ask the interviewer questions about the role. By asking questions, you are showing interest in the role.
