    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My work on a day-to-day basis involved attending MDT meetings and opening up clients to Psychology discussed at these meetings. Occasionally, I was given instructions to discharge clients too. The process involved opening/closing clients on the system and Psychology caseload as well as posting out letters to the clients to inform them of this. There were opportunities to shadow Psychologists and the wider team as well as sit in on meetings.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I honed my listening skills from shadowing client assessments and listening empathetically which is a skill you can only learn in professional settings like this. I developed time management skills, especially when you are given small but multiple tasks such as opening many clients to Psychology- this has also taught me how to prioritise certain tasks. I have also learnt leadership and supervision skills as I had the opportunity to train a new colleague .

  • I received a lot of support. I had weekly supervision with a Psychologist as well as peer supervision with my colleagues, who were assistant Psychologists. The lead Psychologist (line manager) was also available to talk to in case I had concerns.
