    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The internship lasted 4 weeks, the first week mainly comprising of induction and training, where we were able to participate and watch various talks from senior employees from the firm and build on skills such as teamwork. The next 3 weeks you are assigned (usually one or two) projects to work on. Over this time, expect to participate in daily meetings with your team, client visits and helping carrying out testing and various audit procedures. Each week we’d have a meeting to discuss our overall development and learning.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In order to make the most of the internship, it was required of me to reach out and connect with new people. This built my ability to take initiative, as well as develop my networking skills to a high degree. Through this, I was able to learn about the business as a whole rather than just through audit which was nice. During the 3 weeks of project work, I was heavily relying on excel to carry out various tasks and therefore I found that my level of excel proficiency by the end had reached a very high standard.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Deloitte provides enough resources to be able to do your own research online about its business, however I’d recommend going a step further and actually talking to people. They provided us with a platform where we were able to connect to other employees from the firm across all areas but you had to be proactive in order to reach out. I think this is good, as it pushes people out of the comfort zone to build more connections. In terms of roles available, this was mainly spoken about during induction and communicated well.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • To my surprise, I found that Deloitte is a fairly chill place to work, people are very sociable, friendly and welcoming when you first join. Even when I was reaching out to people from other service lines, they were very happy to take time out of their day for coffee chats etc. I found there was a big emphasis on taking care of your mental health as well - there’s a meditation room and we even and meditation timetabled in our calendars which was thoughtful.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • During the 4 weeks I was able to meet so many people - both within and outside of the firm. Being able to make long lasting meaningful relationships was great, due to the fact that people were friendly and welcoming. There were also a lot of after work socials which were enjoyable. I was also able to work on weaker skills, such as excel and time management. By the end of the internship I felt an improvement in personal and professional development. I thoroughly enjoyed the internship and would recommend anyone to apply!

  • 7. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • A big part of Deloitte culture is the people, so when applying you have to be able to be a part of what they are looking for to add to that people culture. So being friendly, sociable and kind is something they really value and take into account. It’s also important to note that the internship is only 4 weeks, this may change, but for me I thought it was quite short and would’ve preferred if it was longer.
