    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role in the West End Office Agency team was varied day-to-day but often included viewings where we met a tenant rep from another company who had clients looking to occupy a building. We used communication and negotiation skills to clearly show what the building offered. I would also complete availability schedule, looking at different comparables on the markets that were suitable for a subject property. Using Excel I researched any missing information for buildings.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed previous skills I had from my university modules and developed new skills in my team. Previous skills I developed included finding suitable comparables where various factors had to be researched. I also developed further skills in Excel when using it to update information on our buildings. I learnt new skills in negotiation and how to sensitively deal with clients who are hoping to find a suitable building and wish to know more.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility to contact other agents to find out certain figures or specifics for buildings which would in turn be updated on our records and relayed to clients who were searching for a suitable office building. I also contacted agents who had posted a listing for a requirement they were looking for and worked to match buildings that would work to what they had listed. I collated those buildings and sent them through.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • From my very first day I received friendly welcomes from everyone in my team as well as other people in teams across the company. I have had various people take time out to speak with me about what they do and about future prospects. My points of contact in my team and people I have worked with have been extremely helpful with explaining different aspects of the job and tasks were explained clearly each time.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture from the beginning was extremely friendly and supportive. I was given multiple opportunities throughout my time to work with a number of people in the team, conduct tasks, complete work for people in the team and attend various meeting (within the company and externally). The company has been described by a number of people as supportive and well structured in terms of future progression. Each day I have felt wanted within the company.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I feel that the 4 weeks absolutely flew by and I wish my time was longer. It has been great to network throughout the company with people I have met prior to joining and meeting people during my time here. I have been able to speak to various people to gain more of an insight into the company, along with being able to spend some time in three separate teams.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • My advice would be to be yourself. Savills is such a people orientated company that it is important to be different to others and confident in your own abilities. It is so important to make the most out of your time. The 4 weeks goes so quickly so it is great to speak to as many people as you can to get an understanding of what they do and if you would enjoy it too.
