    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I had a significant role in overseeing the operation of specialized cloud and high-performance computing (HPC) labs, working in close collaboration with a colleague. Together, we ensured the efficient functioning and success of the lab's operations. I worked with Linux everyday and was essentially a sys admin for most of my placement. I had a lot of autonomy and worked on some side projects while at work.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes definitely. I learned a whole new skillset on Linux, datacentres, networking etc. Using switches, VLANs, server management, lab operations, professional email writing, deep dives into linux etc.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility in my placement. I essentially ran half of our service, and if I didn't work we simply wouldn't be able to continue. I was solely responsible for certain customers, our communications and their system requests. In addition, I was free to choose certain things to focus on unless there was a very tight deadline which I had to follow.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 3/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance in the form of a graduate colleague. My manager was very friendly and always emphasised how I could go to him or his manager.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 4/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 4/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • At my own place of work, the site was 99% of the time a ghost town due to hybrid working, with most people working from home a majority of the time. Being a technical onsite, I had to be in 9-5:30 every day so I experienced how quiet it could be. The Intel culture itself is an awful American corporate culture which is meaningless and annoying.

  • 4/5

  • How would you rate the social opportunities?

  • How would you rate the diversity initiatives?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I did quite enjoy my internship. I worked with other technical interns and employees onsite who were very friendly and I made great friends. However, my work could be quite menial sometimes and repetitive, and I had to take it upon myself to learn new things.

  • Please rate your level of enjoyment on your placement / internship

  • Please rate the future employment prospects at Intel Corporation

  • 7. Would you recommend Intel Corporation to a friend?
  • No

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Intel Corporation
  • Intel is currently doing very badly. Its recently fired a lot of people "CPM" and its stock price is in the toilet. There is a hiring freeze and they hired a third of the number of new interns versus my year. There isn't much room for progressing currently, definitely for technicals. But all this could change in the future with arc and the new fabs in Germany, Oregon, CHIPS act etc. I wouldnt currently.
