    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Day to Day tasks varied a lot. You did anything involved in an audit (that wasn't too complicated/specialised). this could involve travelling to client sites, taking minutes, reviewing board minutes to performing some simple tests. The only thing you do consistently is having catch-up/stand-up meetings every morning to see what everyone got done and what needs to be done. This was very useful as it meant there wasn't a day where I went into office and unsure of what to do - I'd always wait to ask questions in the morning meeting.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Excel - There's a lot of excel work so my excel skills have enhanced. At the start you do an excel introduction course. Communication - You also communicate a lot with clients or team members whether this be via email or face to face so my communication skills have drastically improved as well. General confidence - While this isn't a skill, everyone is SO happy to help and understanding that I've gained a lot of confidence from this internship

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • I have no experience (direct or vicarious) with office jobs so had no idea what to expect. I found myself learning a lot when it comes to office jobs and more specifically, Deloitte. I haven't seen an employer that supports it's employees as much as Deloitte does. Not only have I learned about general office etiquette but I have gained a lot of confidence. Everyone is so understanding meaning I can make as many mistakes with no judgement (as long as I learn from said mistakes that is). I hope to continue to work for Deloitte after I finish my degree.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Welcoming/Understanding - Everyone, without exception is as welcoming as they can be. They go out of their way to make sure that you're happy, comfortable and making the most of your time there. Deloitte don't care about what you know; they care about your motivation to learn. People are more than happy to take the time to sit down and discuss the most basic of accounting concepts so that you can understand what you are doing. Relaxed - I was told of strict rules prior to joining of what office etiquette involves but everyone was super relaxed. As long as you appear professional and do the work to the best of your ability, nobody cares about minor obscure rules and I loved this.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I started off doing tasks that aren't considered too exciting but that was due to me finishing my main tasks quicker than they expected meaning I wasn't left with much. I was transferred to another project and they keep trying to find tasks that are simple yet more exciting - I love that. The hybrid working options are great and all around it was a great experience. I didn't dread going to work.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • Just be yourself. They don't care about how smart you are currently. All they want to see is that you're able to learn and have strong motivation to. Do your research however this is a great firm to be with so take every opportunity you have. It may also come in handy if you research your service line first as many people applied (and got accepted) to Audit and Assurance without knowing what it was which wasn't bad in itself but it may help you to understand what work you're doing.
