    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the virtual internship and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Spring into Deloitte was really useful. We covered a range of activities such as talks about the service lines, case studies and interview tips as well as a networking dinner. The hosts worked very hard to make the two days quite relaxed and the icebreaker at the beginning got everybody talking to each other. The experience gave more indication of life at the firm than I was expecting - it was really worthwhile and helpful

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed lots of business skills that I had coming into the session - for example commmunication, problem solving, decision making, and teamwork. But the experience made me assess problems within a business or corporate setting - -I was using judgement and calculations to solve real world problems with the team around me in the spring experience, so i definitely learnt more collaboration skills and teamworking with new poeple which i think is valuable for if you start work here permanently

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • This was useful and enlightening as the firm has numerous roles available across tax, audit, corporate finance and consulting so it is a real web of opportunity and this can be confusing. But it was useful finding out which are more teamwork based, which are numerical, others more sales based and consultative - so from the experience you could better identify which areas align with your own skills and interests and this helps apply where you fit best

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere throughout the week was warm and welcoming and although we didnt know each other or the hosts, everyone was friendly and helped put everyone at ease and you network so much throughout the day that you do learn about those around you very quickly and understand how to work together. The business people were helpful and friendly and you could always ask questions during the day or even staying behind after to continue asking questions

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual internship?
  • I would say that overall some parts were better than others. I enjoyed the networking, the hotel room was really nice, lunch was provided, and various workshops seen were mostly insightful. some presentations were quite lengthy and towards the end of the days we would have had more energisers and fun things to lift the room perhaps. I think some sessions where you aren;t interested in a particular area of the firm you will find a bit tiresome but overall the sessions were good

  • 7. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • It is worth applying especually to this insight as it gives you a wide open experience of the firm and the culture. Especially in the first year at university there are very few opportunities to earn money or take on a lengthy placement, so it is worth looking into this as a step stone to the vacation scheme at deloitte a year later. this helps remove a lengthy application process the following year so that's a big plus
