  • I work in procurement in the sourcing team. My day to day role includes running competitive tenders which involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

  • I've improved my communication, collaboration and managerial skills. I've learnt technical skills like use of SAP and Microsoft Suite and I've developed presenting and commercial negotiation skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given more responsibility than I expected, however I feel that you are given as much responsibility as your are willing to take on. In procurement, interns get the opportunity to involve themselves in as many different projects than they wish.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line manager was my first point of contact for support, I was also lucky that I became close to a number of individuals in my team who were always on hand to answer questions. Even those in positions of leadership were happy to make time to provide support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is generally really positive, Centrica's values are reflected by the majority of employees I had contact with. The only downside was that there are a lot of corporate politics especially in my department, which made work and relationships a bit difficult sometimes.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I've had a great experience on my placement in Centrica. It is what you make it, if you want a variety of experiences and opportunities it's your job to go and find them for yourself. Personally, I took on a lot of responsibility which allowed me to meet a wide range of individuals and develop my interpersonal skills massively.
