My week at the Finsbury office involved a range of site viewings of Commercial offices that were managed by Savills’ team. We looked at how the tenants were using the space as well as how building works were progressing. Within the office I made tenancy schedules as well as getting insights how to manage arrears and how to keep track of outstanding rent payments. I also found EPC ratings & expiry dates for the current leases.

My week at Savills enhanced my social skills/ confidence in addition to adding drive and ambition from a hard working environment. Meetings and site visits meant time keeping skills were important as well as the ability to be independent. Skills such as Independence in what you think is also key. Such as saying what you think of a new renovation process to ensure you have a different opinion to a co- worker which added depth and interest to conversation.

We had many zoom calls during the week from all things to do with APC process as well as meeting different people from different sectors operating in regional offices across the UK. This included people from Commercial valuation sector for example who would not only teach a basis overview of the subject but also show pictures of experience they’d done as well as answer lots of questions. There was advice on what sector would be best suited for you as well as what routes there are to get you there.

Within both offices the atmosphere had a hard working environment combined with a friendly and welcoming feel. The teams were extremely supportive to interns within it and any questions would be answered in a really helpful way. The team would go out of their way to make my week as enjoyable as possible such as organising site visits and office tours.

I really enjoyed this insight. It has been an inspiring week which has fuelled me with a sense of direction and confidence. The networking events were not only good to meet directors of the companies and interns who offered really valid advice but also to meet people doing different courses from different universities who you may work with in the future!

Be your authentic self. Speak to as many people as you can. Get a feel for the business see if it’s right for you. Don’t be closed minded, you never know what sector actually deals with what and therefore it could be for you. Apply with confidence and be friendly and interested.
