    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My main responsibilities included managing the lab at the Swindon site as well as doing AI research. I also handled systems which allowed me to get some experience in hardware. I also got to do research into finding AI solutions for predicting Persistent Memory Performance.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed and learned a lot of skills throughout my placement. I have been able to expand my experience and knowledge in handling hardware, which wasn't exactly directly related to my role but as it was a big interest of mine alongside software, I was able to do so and I am grateful for that. I have also been able to develop my communication skills by speaking with my colleagues in my global team and also customers. I also got to take part in employee groups that allowed me to gain organisation and presentation skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility which was a great confidence booster. I was given full trust in my managing the Swindon Lab by my team with minimal supervision and this helped me in my skill development. I also took other roles of responsibility in the company's STEM outreach program where I got the chance to present in front of primary school students and university students about machine learning and AI.

  • The culture was really enjoyable and I always felt like I was welcomed and treated like every other employee, not just seen as an intern. This made me feel like my input was important and valuable. The general working atmosphere was great overall.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. There were many opportunities for development, I got to explore areas of work that interested me to expand my skillset which is very valuable. I got to take part in a lot of intern groups and activities throughout the year which made it feel super fun as well. There is a big intern group and this made my experience a lot more enjoyable and fun. I met great people and learned a lot. Although it would have been great to get involved in more team socials.
