    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I’ve learned how to run and manage a programme from start to finish in a business and what is the best way to deliver it as a pilot and improve on it from there based on feedback received. I’ve learned how to release communications tailored for specific audiences and to engage businesses using different software and applications to create eye-catching messages and promotions. I’ve also learned how to present to audiences of over two hundred members between executives, managers and employees to create a relevant message that allows to act as a soundboard for different ideas from many backgrounds and levels of experience.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility for my internship based on my expertise on engineering requirements and managerial practices. I was a representative for the engineering programme and was required at a time to attend each event to ensure the workshops and networking dinners went smoothly. I was also handed responsibility to create a learning resource in the form of a website that would be shared to over 800 managers in a business to help them improve their leadership and managerial skills in a team and organisation.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and mentorship from my colleagues. As they all had different backgrounds and levels of specialist knowledge, I knew I could come to them if I had questions relevant to their work and they empowered me to decisions based on the information that was transferred over to me. Processes were fast and efficient when we worked together as a team and they gave me many opportunities to explore my passions and understand the depth of learning and development in an organisation.

  • The company culture is very organic, supportive and curious on what new practices can be introduced to improve the business. People are encouraged to ask questions and to shadow experts in order to become as knowledgeable in their roles as a manager in the field. There is a lot of enthusiasm to learn no matter your role and it encourages the team and it’s businesses to continue with that sense of learning culture at Siemens.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship to the extent that I felt like I had a better sense of control and organisation in my responsibilities than any other role I’ve ever worked in. I felt confident in myself following the internship and was able to continue on to be a learning consultant following six months after the internship began. It gave me a better perception of how large HR can cover the business and what it’s importance is towards an organisation’s future.

Now, more than ever, Siemens is empowering its interns to be able to fulfil their placement requirement and feel more confident in their ability to acquire a role in the same business following that internship.
