  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was responsible for coordinating communications for equality diversity and inclusion and engaging the nationwide community of ED&I champions by sending out intenal communications. Responsibilities also included organising events, planning for national and global occasions e.g. Pride, National Inclusion Week, Black History Month and International Day of Persons with Disabilities. I also supported a range of employee network within the business and wrote and planned applications for EDI awards on behalf of the company.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have further developed my creative writing skills due to my responsibility to write EDI related articles. New skills include how to use social media planning tool sprinklr and facilities within the Microsoft suite such as SharePoint. I have also for the first time experienced creating different forms of communications such as podcasts and webcasts and I was responsible for the EDI portion of social media postings on Siemens' social media accounts including Instagram and Twitter

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • From the very beginning of my internship I was trusted with great levels of responsibility. A personal highlight of my internship was being able to write an article regarding the personal experiences of one of the members of the senior leadership team. Additionally I was trusted to work with an agency to design a video for Global Accessibility Awareness Day which was a personal suggestion and was subsequently shared on all of the Siemens social media accounts globally.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a tremendous amount of support from my line manager and other members of staff. Initially my line manager went out of their way to ensure I had an opportunity to meet all key members of the department when I started. As I began my internship I was given a lot of support. As time went on I was rusted more to make my own decisions but I knew that I could always get support if i wanted it.

  • The company has a great culture with growth mindset as one of their strategic priorities to promote the personal development of employees. There is also a great sense of community between the interns and a great opportunity to develop friendships. All employees have always appeared to be approachable for any questions related to my role or just if I wanted to learn more about the company in general. Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and all of the opportunities that were presented to me during that time. I really felt that the interns at Siemens were really appreciated. This was reflected by the holding of an early careers gala at the end of our internships to celebrate our work and achievements. The experiences have really helped to develop my knowledge and confidence as I move forward to further work. I would highly recommend for anyone to take an internship at Siemens.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Siemens
  • I would recommend for people just to apply, you never know what to expect. Should you be successful you should approach the internship with an open mind and take any opportunities that come your way. In the interview you should try to remain relaxed. During your internship you should think what you really want to gain from your internship, what skills you would like to develop and what you would like to experience. I'm sure such opportunities will come your way.
