    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working within the multidisciplinary Newcastle Building Services Team developing and designing electrical infrastructure within the built environment. Involves working a variety of projects both commercial and data centre based helping to support the team in project deliverables.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Greatly developed my electrical engineering skills further on from university and now have a years worth of real engineering world experience as well. Leant new building services specific skills whilst in the role using them on a day-to-day basis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • As the placement went on, given more and more responsibilities. Near the end was given full responsibility for the production and delivery of tasks for the client. Involved with more client meetings and conversations as I began to develop in the placement as well.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Wasn't placed on many official training courses. However, given plenty of support and guidance throughout my placement when I required it. At the beginning of each new task often given a full walkthrough on what to do with explanations of theory behind it as well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company has a great culture with a friendly atmosphere. Felt straight at home within the building services team. Lots of opportunities for socialising inside and outside of working hours in the Newcastle office as well.

  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the placement. Over the course of the year, I have developed greatly as an electrical engineer and have gained amazing work experience.
