Overview
- Assisting design team with drawings and calculations - Attending team meetings - Reading and understanding engineering standards and theory
Skills
- Use of software e.g. Rhino, Bluebeam, AutoCAD - Time management and presentation skills
Responsibilities
- Design calculations actually contributed to current work of the team and not just dummy calcs for an intern. - Not much project involvement apart from specific task I was asigned - No client interactions - Not much exposure to business outside of team I was in
Support & Guidance
- People very willing to help if you reach out, need to be proactive as people unlikely to reach out to you first - Very much what you make of the experience
Culture
- No centralised intern programme so didn't have the opportunity to network a lot - Socialising within teams varied greatly depending on which team you were in - Good at encouraging women in STEM - Good outside of work activities e.g. 5 aside football weekly
Your Impressions
- Exciting projects to work on and innovative design solutions - not found in many other companies - Company culture is very much you are responsible for your own work and have to be proactive - Few site opportunities - No micromanagement so left to get on with own work which was nice
Yes
- Interview process was a mix of personality questions and technical knowledge - recommend researching industry and current work at Arup for interview
