    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight was a one month vacation scheme. I was in two different departments. These were Pensions and employment, and Corporate. The first week consisted of a three day induction in which I was introduced to the firm and the structure of the scheme was explained, afterwards I went into my first seat and received work daily to do. Objectives were set for me which I had to meet by the end of my placement

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed analytical skills and general professionalism. I used a variety of new skills. Different skills were required more for each of the departments that I was in. For example, in the Corporate department I had to understand the complex goals of clients, and I had to use my analytical skills in Pensions. There is a focus on developing networking skills throughout the scheme and I had the opportunity to network with many different people, through this my interpersonal skills were developed.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was very interesting understanding all about the business and potential roles available. The process for receiving a graduate offer was explained very clearly and the scheme places you very firmly on the path to getting this offer. Seeing how the business works was fascinating as you really gain an understanding of how the company generates business on a daily basis through engaging with potential work and deciding whether it wants to take it on.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has a very strong culture, this was evident to me throughout the application process and when I started my placement. There is a large focus on being friendly and approachable. I never felt as if I could not go to someone for help and advice as everyone there was very welcoming and kind. There is also an atmosphere of professionalism as everyone there was highly qualified, knowledgeable and were experts in their fields.

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was enjoyable to a large extent. The insight was organised very well and every participant was well catered for. I gained a wealth of knowledge throughout my time there which will continue to serve me into the future. I can now go forward with the knowledge that I have the necessary skills to do a graduate scheme effectively and through this I have attained a greater level of confidence, self belief and capability.

  • 7. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
  • Develop interpersonal skills and learn excel. I would highly recommend being yourself when applying. It is ideal when your personality shines through your applications as then the graduate recruitment team can really easily assess whether you will be a good fit for the company or not. I would also recommend making a list of all of your relevant experiences as then you can evidence any answers that you may give in the interviews, this will greatly increase your chances of success
