The Role
My placement year has been a very enjoyable experience, mainly down to the fact that I have been able to express my areas of interest and then been involved in projects relating to this. I have also been given many opportunities to be involved in projects that I may not have previously chosen myself and found new interests.
Everyone is more than willing to help each other and value each others input. I have recieved feedback from my seniors on all projects I have been involved in, mainly positive this has made me feel valued. Any other feedback has provided constructive ideas for improvement and I have been fully supported by my colleagues.
I have had two mangers during my placement year due to me having two areas of work. Both managers have been supportive and willing to provide as much guidance as neccessary. Both managers have provided regualr catch-ups/reveiws and have shared their career experiences and given me plenty of advice.
Depends on the week, in the finance department certain times are significantly busier than others. Howeve it is okay to say if I feel too busy and support is usually provided.
Depends on the project. HR gave me more sole responsibility whereas in finance projects are more closely supervised due to the nature of the work.
I have learned far more on placement than in the classroom. Also practical experience of the theory studied at degree level has enhanced my learning and understanding. Should I find myself in an interveiw for a graduate scheme I will have a lot to discuss and more advanced responses.
The Company
There is a good atmosphere in the office, regualr tea rounds and good conversation. During busier periods it can be less social but never unpleasant.
I was given the opportunity at interveiw to state my areas of interest and the placement has been designed around this. The plan was to move through various departments to experience as many different areas as possible, however once I found a department where I was happy and the manager was happy with me I remained there for the duration.
Director and other senior managers have been fully cooperative and helpful with my uni assignments. We have discussed the possibility of training for me in the future, however the focus for now for myself and my manager is my degree. My manager has taken a keen interest in my degree studies and has been invloved in decisions about my future module choices.

I have not yet officially secured a permanent position, although the possibility has been discussed. I will be using the comapny fro my dissertation project next year.
The Culture
I am the only business placement student. We have team outing periodically e.g Christmas, financial year end. I have sometimes socialised with the food technology placement student also.
Hull is cheap as chips, especially if you are used to "down south" prices. Great town with loads of student discounts!
Being a Hull University student I have been able to use the uni bars aswell as local bars. But there is something on somewhere every night of the week.Plus great places to eat and severals cinemas, ice skating etc.
Being from Hull Uni I had plenty. Not sure what it would be like for people from elsewhere though.
