The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year. I learnt a large amount about the company and the industry as well as what I want to do in the future. The activities were both varied and interesting.
Everyone was really friendly and helpful. I felt part of the team straight away and was given a lot of responsibility.
I was given a large amount of support and guidance by my mangers. I was always given the information I needed to complete the work and they were happy to anwer any questions I had.
Alot of my placement involved completing project work aswell as daily tasks. I also completed weekly trails and a number of visits so there was never a time in which I had nothing to do. But I also never felt that I was struggling with the work load.
I completed a large number of trials and projects throughout my time at the company most of which I completed on my own. It felt like a real job rather than just a placement.
I completed a number of training courses that I can take with me along with a large amount of knowledge about the industry. I definately feel that the placement will be a huge benefit to me in my final year at university aswell as when applying for jobs when I graduate.
The Company
Everyone at the company was very friendly and welcoming. I got on well with everyone in my office and there was a good atmosphere.
As the 3rd placement student for the department there was a clear role for me within the department aswell as a large number of opportunities avaliable to ensure that I gained the most out of my experience.
Everything that I completed throughout the year contributed to my development. I completed a number of training courses and gained certificates for each of them. Training was also involved in my induction week.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I do not think that there is a job for me at the company as there are new placement students taken on each year. But who knows where the company will be in a years time.
The Culture
There was only one other placement student at the company in another department so there wasn't really a student social scene. We did do a number of social events within our department.
I got a nice flat in a good location at an affordable price. I was based close to the university area so found everything to be of good value.
I lived on a street with a large number of bars and restaurants and only 20 minutes from the centre of town.
The company had a recreational club which held a number of activities for employees. There was also lots to do in the area I lived in.
