Overview
As an engineer I would often be writing C# or SQL code to fix bugs or create new features. When I was a member of an implementation team I would be helping to customising the system for customers specific needs. In development you mainly work on the core product.
Skills
Over my placement I learnt many new skills and furthered my already existing skills greatly. My technical skills with C# and SQL improved a lot but also my soft skills such as my confidence, communication and ability to work as a member of a team improved.
Responsibilities
You get given a lot of responsibility as you are working on real tasks for customers straight after training.
Support & Guidance
There is an incredible amount of support and guidance. You get assigned both a mentor and a buddy who you can raise any questions or issues to. Every team is also very supportive as you can ask anyone for help and they will either be able to help or direct you towards someone who can.
Culture
At Lighthouse there is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Everyone is approachable and friendly and it is easy to chat to people and make friends there.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement both in terms of the work I was doing being enjoyable and rewarding but also making new friends and networking with people.
Yes
I would advice having a car if you are planning to move to the area where the office is located. Other than that just be yourself in the interviews and don't stress over the application process.
