    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Taking care of costs in the subcontract packages which are dedicated to me and reporting them internally and updating the VCR. I have also been forming and submitting client variations upstream using CEMAR. After 10 months of managing my own subcontractors, I have now started a pre construction quantity surveying role which requires me to measure and organise subcontractor works. The aim of the job off and on site is to make money!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, University has not taught me anywhere near as much as this year. I have learnt the whole process from Pre-Construction, to managing subcontractors costs and learning how to deal with the client side of QSing. A variety of skills University would struggle to teach without on-site experience.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Thankfully, my boss [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was extremely good to me. Apart from being a really good guy, he has given me a lot of responsibility which I have enjoyed. He has let me completely run subcontractor packages, run my own CE's which held high value and also allowed me to focus on the groundworks package which I really enjoyed. He has also allowed me to price up multiple projects.
