The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I learnt a lot and worked with an amazing team. I had a few low points throughout the year as everyone does, but I was given a lot of responsibility and enjoyed my time on my project meeting lots of different people which I really liked.
By the end of my placement I felt very valued and the work I was doing was quite important. Obviously at the start its hard to give someone new important work but i felt like proved myself and my team respected me as a site manger and a person. The responsibilities I was given made me feel like a big part of the team and the client always trusted me to get jobs done so i also felt valued by the client.
I was very lucky that the job I was working on was an important job in central London, which meant our management team would always be down on site. They were very easy to talk to and helped me with any problem I had. They always checked in on me to ensure I was still happy with placement and ask about about what I was thinking about for the future and offer advice which wasn't always biased towards the company.
It varied throughout the year. Some times i was too busy or rushed to do a task and so wasn't proud of the work i produced and some times especially at the start I barley did anything. I do think it was hard on the job I was on as we had a young team so its hard to split up the jobs placement students can do. Sometimes I did think we had too many people on the team but sometimes during the busy period it was perfect and I would be given work to get on with and I felt like i was a happy busy, but it is hard to find the medium.
If i am being honest I was given more than i expected. As we had a big team I understand it was hard to deligate responisiblity but i did feel like i was given oppertuinty to run things and be in charge. There was a few times where I thought "I know I could do this by myself" about tasks but at the same time i understand if I had messed up they would get the blame not me .
I'm not so sure they will help in my degree, but on my placement I learnt a lot about work, myself and how to hold myself around other people. I also went on a lot of training which will obviously help me when I go to work full time and gave me some more knowledge which might come up in uni modules.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was lighthearted and fun, I really enjoyed working with the team I had. They made me feel included and part of the messed up family that always took the mick out of each other. Obviously there were awkward times and 1 or 2 argument but everyone gets over the quickly. On thing that put a downer on the site atmosphere was moving into site cabins.
Not as good as it could have been, on my first day I didn't get told anything and no one was expecting me. I had problems with pay and expenses, to me the organisation of my placement was the worst part. It really stressed me out as I knew nothing. Even trying to organise other things throughout the year didn't go well.
I had problems with training as 3 separate courses I went on were cancelled after I arrived at the place. But the company were very good and helpful and put me on many different courses and I learnt a lot. I know if I carry on with the company I will be put on a management course. I felt likle they really invested in me and wanted me to be my best.

I think quite appealing, I know Kier are a good company and I would be proud to work for them.
The Culture
It wasn't good and it wasn't bad, there were about 3 whole Kier London events. I went to one which I did enjoy but I was lucky we went on a few team nights out which were so much fun and it was nice to spend time with everyone. In terms of Placement student events there were none and I do think They should have done something.
I lived at home so it was fine, but if I wasn't living at home it would have been expensive and probably had a much longer commute. I worked in London so it expected to be expensive.
The night life is good in London, but personally I'm not a big fan I don't enjoy it, its expensive, busy, hard to get to I don't know anyone. Going out in London just isn't my thing but i know a lot of people who enjoy it. But I did enjoy going to the pub with colleagues on a Friday night.
I didn't hear of a lot, like 2 things max and I'm pretty sure that 1 of them got cancelled anyway and anything I did hear of were far away and things I didn't enjoy, which was annoying as I like to get involved in those sort of things but couldn't really.
