    Overview

  • Learnt how to model creep in concrete using numeric methods, different construction codes, using in-house Arup CAD modelling software.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Somewhat. Whilst I had a fair amount of training given, I also helped out on various projects that are part of important work that Arup were doing, for example helping out on tender documents, cross-checking CAD model materials and internal databases to help Arup identify structural issues.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. Grad engineers were super helpful and the senior engineer I was with was very helpful in trying to explain the obstacles I ran into. The Arup University moodle courses have a wealth of information on every sector of engineering, sustainability and business, and beyond.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Engineers around were incredibly hard-working and 'switched-on', much more so compared to other peers' internship companies. Everyone was friendly and helpful and welcoming.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • To a large extend. I had real-life responsibilities that I can use and extend my engineering knowledge, and do things outside engineering that meant I can learn about how the company operated, what other teams are doing etc

  • Definately take up most opportunities you are given and ask people for different work as Arup has a diverse portfolio. Take up the learning opportunities.
