    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During this internship I did two rotations, one in CMF trading where, with the help of my line manager, I worked on a project to optimize the balance sheet of the firm (using a code in python) but I also did some daily tasks to help the desk. In my second rotation, In FX trading I'm also working on a project while shadowing my team members and trying to understand the market and hos its evolving nowadays.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I was able to understand the markets better, developed my networking skills and I'm much more comfortable talking to people, asking questions and discussing my ideas. I was also able to learn technical terms and jargon on top of what drives the market in the current situation. I was able to do presentation and overcome the fear of talking in public while getting useful feedback from the jury that assesses the presentations or/and projects.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility in reasonable amounts, my line manager made sure of its feasibility within the time constrains and we had constant catch up and follow up regarding my projects to ensure everything is progressing very well and that I wasn't stuck or not able to do a certain task. We also had a lot of networking events and activities on top of our rotations but again in reasonable amount and they are quite fun actually.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received great support and guidance. Both my line managers were super supportive and helpful during the entire period of my internship. they were very welcoming and made sure they are available when ever I had an issue or needing advice. I also have a mentor and a buddy who are also very helpful and welcoming. the overall attitude is friendly and welcoming and very supportive which makes it a very pleasant experience that i recommend very much.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is really good, friendly, respectful and most of all accepting. There are a lot of events, activities whose main purpose is to encourage diversity initiatives. Employees and interns are incentivized to participate in these events ( conferences, sport events, pride marches, charities etc.) Being part of a minority group, I never felt like unseen, unheard or facing discriminations from the very first day I joined UBS and for that I feel very proud to belong to ubs community

  • I enjoyed the work, I enjoyed the teams, the guidance, help and support. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the company cultures. It met and exceeded my expectations even because i never imagined id learn from and meet such amazing welcoming people. The amount of information I was able to process during two much of internship was much more than what i could learn in a whole scholar year because its now more tangible and applicable.
