    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day-to-day basis at Savills Aberdeen I was given the opportunity to attend viewings of both offices and industrial sites. I also assisted with the writing of reports, analysis of heads of terms and calculations of the areas of buildings. I also spent time with the development and building surveying teams, where I was lucky enough to try a drone in order to take photos of large industrial buildings with damage.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned the ability to proficiently use Microsoft excel, in which I can now calculate sq ft areas accurately. I have also developed the ability to analyse heads of terms by learning about surveying terms such as 'sub-lease', 'assignations' and partial 'surrender.' Additionally, I now understand how to measure both large commercial and industrial properties using a DiWalt laser distance measurer.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was immediately made clear how the business worked and the different teams that were included in the office. For example, the office was laid out in accordance with each different division, for example, the commercial team sat at one end of the office and the residential at the other. However, the office was open plan in order to allow for easy communication between different teams.
