    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • This kind of varies, dependent on the project but some of the main ones include -Reading architecture/ microarchitecture documents and implementing particular feature or logic in software -Writing tests and understanding how to apply test driven development -Fixing errors/ warnings/bugs -Learning C++17, CMake, Sofware engineering techniques – design patterns, algorithms, data structures, other efficient design and debugging techniques -Understanding the current model software , how the registers work, the networking chip hardware -Attending training courses, conferences (ACCU conference), talks by Senior Engineer’s of the team -Getting development environment set up - Working on the task assigned - could be implementing a hardware feature, refactoring old logic, extending/developing a new feature -In the last month helping new interns settle in

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Initially from an Electronics background but through the continued support, vast learning resources and strong emphasis on mentoring was able to develop skills acquired through a computer science degree. Gained deeper understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, software techniques, test driven development. Also developed a deeper interest in C++ and its applications. By attending various WIN and TWIN workshops and organizing external outreach and internal events developed stronger public speaking, presentation and communication skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • This was the favorite part about the role. Despite being an intern I was given the opportunity to contribute to customer specific software and many other opportunities to grow and develop my skills. This placement experience that has kickstarted my early career ,helped me develop industry specific skills and most importantly has allowed me to explore professional and personal opportunities

  • Ensure your CV is well formatted and stands out from the crowd. Despite applying for a technical role, it is important for your CV to include some soft skills. Also the more inclusive you are the more likely it is you'll fit well into the company culture.
