    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I have been given responsibility for the completion of a detailed design project (calculation, drawing, reports and statutory forms). This has involved managing my time whilst completing meaningful tasks with a clear goal which can be planned for.

    Support & Guidance

  • With people always in the office, I have been able to ask for help whenever I have needed it. When I have needed help, colleagues have been able to offer help and have been happy to aid my development.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very friendly. Lots of activities to get to know the team outside of work. This included a summer party, a retirement doo, bike rides after work and tennis. These things helped create a friendly atmosphere that I believe has allowed me to feel comfortable at work which has allowed me to focus strongly on my work.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Arup
  • Ensure that you are able to demonstrate a passion for looking for innovation with work. Able to demonstrate knowledge of sustainable agendas and action that you have taken. Make sure that you really enjoy civil and / or structural engineering. Get involved!
