    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assisting with general day-to-day management of my line manager's properties in and around London. Tasks include chasing arrears, assisting in putting service charge budgets together, assisting with service charge reconciliations, completing service charge reconciliation and budget reports, visiting site, setting tenants up on our system if new leases have completed, monitoring upcoming lease events and assisting my line manger with regular communication with the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed a variety of skills including becoming more competent with Excel and managing time through using the Outlook calendar. I also have learnt a look of technical information including service charges, reading leases, reviewing financial reports and understanding other key information for the RICS code of property management.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a great amount of responsibility from the beginning of my placement. This included being given my own site to take responsibility for, with the help of my manager. I also was given the responsibility to speak with tenants and clients directly from the beginning of my placement.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had an appraisal with my line manager 3 month into my placement which was a great way to ensure I was getting off on the right foot. I also received a great deal of support and guidance on my APC and how to keep a diary throughout my placement to take forward to my graduate scheme.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There are a lot of social and sport events which is a great way to get to know people from around the business. There are also various diversity initiatives, including the Socio-Economic Group which I joined at the beginning of my placement.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement. I think the team I have been in have been extremely supportive and have helped me grow in confidence by managing me in this way. I also have enjoyed spending the amount of time in this one team/department as it has resulted in me really learning the job and getting a variety of experiences throughout my time at the company. I would consequently like to return as I believe the training, support and exposure you are give from the start of your career is truly valuable.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • To be yourself. The company values diversity and also is a very social place and therefore it is important that you show who you really are and what you are looking for in a work environment. I would advise applicants to research the departments that they are applying for and really try to have a general understanding of what the roles and responsibilities will be in that team/department and why you consequently think that your strengths are suited to this role.
