    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day you would be briefed on a trainee-style task and would have the rest of the day to complete. During the rest of the day, meetings were organised with teams such as wellbeing and corporate growth as well as informal 'coffee-catch ups' with different employees within the daily schedule.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have hugely developed my legal skills. Throughout the week, you get exposure to a broad range of work such as legal drafting and other trainee-style tasks.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Lots of information was provided about working as a trainee at the firm - both formally in presentations but also via informal chats with current trainees. At the end of the week, Graduate Recruitment took us clearly through the next steps and potential roles available.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture was so friendly! I really felt that everyone was approachable and nearly every employee encouraged you to contact them again in the week with any further questions or for a chat (which I did make use of!). The only comment I could make is that I didn't come into contact with as many partners but I know lots of them worked from home so it was more difficult to meet in office.

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight scheme. I felt like I gained further insight into nearly every department, met so many trainees and NQs who provided even more invaluable insights and also got the opportunity to learn about different areas of the business (international work, wellbeing, inclusivity networks, commercial growth).

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell
  • When applying, really understand the firm's values - they are key to their day-to-day operations. If you get to the legal placement, make the most out of the opportunities and ask questions but also don't be afraid to get in contact with anyone working in an area/with experiences that interest you and meet for lunch/coffee - from my experience, everyone was so friendly!
