    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I sit next to a Director in the Economics team and help him with whatever projects need to be done, helping out with the most basic tasks, but still seeing their importance reflected on the rest of the team's work.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have improved my use of Excel, as well as my technical skills with softwares like QGIS. I have also learned how the company drafs their reports, how to produce an Economic Assessment Analysis, and how to complete a Market Area Analysis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was only helping with rather basic things, but I did have to ensure the data was correct and accurate. Although my work would later be used by the team to elaborate the reports, and this could feel a bit daunting, everything I did was always checked by my mentor, and this really reassured me.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was constantly guided by my mentor, who was working right next to me for the entire duration of the internship. He was the one giving me the tasks to complete, and answering any questions I could potentially have. He was excellent at helping me, and I think that is one of the reasons my internship experience was so great.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I absolutely adored the people in my team, and the atmosphere in the office in general was very good, because there was always someone working on my floor, and people were always very welcoming. I had the feeling that people knew that I was the "new" one, and they made an effort to be nice to me when I crossed paths with them.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the real estate industry, especially on the Panning matters, as this was my department. It was also a great introduction to office work, because this was my first time working in an office setting in person, and it was great to experience the dynamics that went on around the floor.

  • 7. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • It is good if you know about the real estate industry, because it will make the application process smoother, especially for those departments with more applications. However, I didn't know much and I believe it was a great opportunity for me to learn more, so just find a division where you can use the skills that you already have, and take the opportunity to learn what you don't know yet while at Savills.
