    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Research into health benefits of functional ingredients and application into products. Mix of desk based research and practical research. There is a decent amount of presentations too. There is also a student project to design a new product for a Pepsico brand and opportunities to do office wide projects such as STEM or environmental work.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I get to manage a decent amount of money for my projects and manage a few people too. I'm given a lot of freedom with my projects, they do put a lot of trust in the students

  • 3/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • You have your line manager, buddy, mentor, the student team and other students as support. Whether you choose to use them or not is up to you. I think this is really subjective on your line manager and the people you work with- I didn't always feel I could fully reach out for support due to the gossip culture I had witnessed amongst some of the staff so didn't want to disclose issues.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 3/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 3/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Mostly nice. They try to involve everyone and make a community feel. Most people are friendly and willing to help. There are some people who dislike students (as with every company I imagine). There is also a bit of a competitive atmosphere amongst students which is fueled by some staff members.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed the opportunities given to me and the freedom I had. My team and the wider office were mostly lovely and there were perks to working for a big business (money for events, freebies). I think the atmosphere nurtures + celebrates extroverts and can exclude other personality types. I personally wouldn't go back purely as it is not a career I wish to further explore but if I did, I would consider PepsiCo.

  • 7. Would you recommend PepsiCo to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PepsiCo
  • Just be yourself. Even if you aren't sure the job title matches your career goals, its very flexible and you can tailor your work to your interests (in R&D) so apply anyway. If you don't enjoy socialising/ want very theoretical or heavy research work/ prefer solo work this placement isn't likely to bring out the best in you.
