  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've developed my AutoCAD skills, communication, and report writing. I've learnt how to use MicroStation, produce pavement designs, use the DMRB, and work on large and small scale projects and teams.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility at varying times; it matched my abilities and pushed me outside of my comfort zone at times but it was never more than I could handle.

  • I'm surrounded by people I can go to with questions, whether my line manager or other colleagues which has made integrating with the team a bit easier.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There is a general chill atmosphere within the team and office. Everyone gets their work done but it's also very friendly. You feel like you can talk to anyone whether you know them or not. There are lots of events going on, socials are planned within teams but there are wider office and region events.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My time at Arup surpassed what I was expecting. I got to work on some major infrastructure projects, some bids and some minor infrastructure projects. I was surrounded by supportive people who made my placement very fun. If I could come back as a grad, it would be amazing.

  • Be entirely yourself! The company looks quite daunting from the outside but they simply want people whose work ethic and beliefs align with theirs; who can enrich the company and who they can add value to as well.
