    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • During the insight, which lasted a week, I shadowed an appointed mentor and completed tasks set for me. These included completing cash flow tables, reading over lease documents, aiding in business development and measuring office spaces. Furthermore Savills also hosted a range of speakers from across the business which provided departmental overviews in order to get a better understanding of the opportunities at Savills.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I learnt how to measure office spaces using a laser and how to use the IPMS3 to make sure that the area of the office is standard across countries. Furthermore this opportunity allowed me to put what ive learnt so far at university into actual practice and apply that knowledge to real world scenarios. This has been invaluable because its meant that im now able to see correlation between my studies and future work.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Due to the departmental overviews that were ran throughout the week I gained an in depth knowledge about all the different sectors that Savills acts in and all the potential opportunities within the business, such as the rotational grad scheme that would allow me to spend an extended period of time in different sectors of the business in order to get a more overall view.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Based on the emails I was getting through and the in house "social media" I could tell that the companies culture is a very inclusive one and that there wasn't room for people who aren't accepting of others. The general atmosphere was relaxed but focused, at no point did I feel intimidated by someone in a more senior role and if anything they made it very welcoming.

  • I really enjoyed the insight as it has allowed me to find something that I genuinely am interested in and want to do in the future as opposed to before the insight where I wasn't sure what sector I wanted to go into. Furthermore the day-to-day tasks were enjoyable and I genuinely felt like I was contributing to the team and helping them.
