    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight was really good for giving an overview of the real estate industry. I learned about current developments, how to look for and analyse comparables, read through investment memorandums, and learned about the elements of an appraisal.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Daily use of Excel spreadsheets, also learning how to use a real estate perspective to look at and compare different residential properties, as well as basic finance skills, in looking at yield, purchase costs, etc.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was an eye-opening experience. It taught me that real estate is a lot more than it seems as surface level, and that a lot of evaluation, analysis, and modelling goes into developing new property, and advising clients. I really enjoyed learning about the different sectors, and how they all interlink to provide excellent services.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere in the specific division that I worked in was really friendly and bubbly. Everyone is willing to provide support, and all members of the team are willing to sit down and talk about their experience, and give a personalised insight into their role in the company. It is definitely an environment I see myself working in in the future.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It is one of the best work experiences that I've ever had the opportunity to do. I have always been able to learn new things, felt that my contributions were always taken into consideration, and made to feel included in the work environment. It was lovely to meet passionate individuals on the insight scheme, and graduates and workers with passion for what they do.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • The top piece of advice I would give is to be willing to learn, and willing to reach out and speak to people at the company. You don't need to be an expert in real estate, just show that you are committed, and ready to take on any challenges or projects that you're given. Ask as many questions as possible! People are always ready to give answers.
