Overview
We spent a day in each of the following departments: Corporate Finance, Commercial Advisory & Disputes, Will Trust & Estate Disputes (WTED) and Complex Personal Injury. We completed tasks in each department and were able to ask questions of senior solicitors and current trainees. We also had a social evening and a Final Assessment on the last day.
Skills
I was able to see first hand the work that we will be able to do during our training contract and developed the skills I had learned on the LPC, in a more practical setting. I also got a feel for the welcoming and sociable culture at Irwin Mitchell.
Business Insight
Irwin Mitchell recently altered their business structure, dispensing of business and personal legal services and blending the two into a wider client services department. It was really insightful to hear how this would affect our training contracts and how it would aid the business.
Culture
Friendly, inviting and felt as though you could ask the current employees anything.
Your Impressions
I found it really enjoyable and was thrilled when I received a training contract offer, because the placement made it seem like a great place to work.

Get an understanding of the culture and work that the firm deals with before applying and make sure it would be a good fit for you! Most applicants have the legal skills and academic ability to succeed but it’s about the type of work you want to complete on your training contract and how much the culture appeals to you.
