    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The firm designed a virtual placement which lasted one week and provided an insight into Irwin Mitchell. I completed tasks for four different departments and on the last day, I had a final interview. Alongside this, the firm held a number of different talks, held coffee catch ups with other departments, the opportunity to meet a client albeit virtually and hosted social events with the other applicants and current trainees at the firm.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The placement helped to develop my time-management skills as we were given a set deadline to submit the four different tasks. I also gained an insight into different areas of law, both commercial and personal which helped to develop my legal researching skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was really interesting because the firm has recently had a restructure. The firm held a specific event regarding their evolution and we were able to ask questions and really understand how the firm works as a whole. The firm really pride themselves on providing the expert hand, with the human touch and genuinely care about the wider community as well as their clients and colleagues.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell
  • My advice would be to attend the firm's open day event as soon as you can so you can gain an insight into the firm before you submit your application. If you do get through to the legal work placement, make sure you give it your all and ask lots of questions and seek out individual feedback where you can so you can really learn from the experience.
