    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Very varied tasks - fun introductions, then lots of workshops. All interactive with a lot of group presentations involved. 3 weeks of these workshops (virtual for me, usually in Reading HQ), including a final group presentation - a Dragon’s Den challenge which involves all your learnings. Learnings cover the business functions, brands, marketing, finance, R+D etc. Other 3 weeks is field sales in different channels - supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Constant teamwork and group presentations increased my confidence. Working to deadlines as presentations had to be turned around in 30 or so minutes. Learnt to be inquisitive and ask questions. Field week was very independent, so time management, route planning was picked up here. Allows you to be creative while thinking realistically and strategically

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Not much independent or responsible work done in the virtual weeks, such as excel etc. Doesn’t feel like a 9-5; more like a course/workshop which is really fun. Field weeks were very independent with lots of freedom. Living in London with other interns and completing your tasks individually.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A main team of 3 intern leads who were all really responsive and engaging. Lots of connections made, all willing to help. Field week also received some guidance but also independence as well.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Really fun and friendly. Lots of prizes, challenges, fun activities. Towards the end, slightly competitive in the search for a graduate program offer. Anonymous surveys handed out to review your teammates. Nonetheless, really fun culture and lots of freebies.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Really enjoyed it - felt very much like the Apprentice. Had challenging moments but allowed you to be creative and have fun. Lots of collaboration involved, unfortunate to not have more in-person due to Covid. Very creative internship, lots of soft skills learnt but maybe less hard skills such as data analysis, report writing, costings were done.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PepsiCo
  • Be prepared to make connections, be confident, stand out and be creative. Loads of fun if you’re into branding, marketing etc. If you want to crunch numbers and want to gain practical office type experience, probably not for you.
