    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Updating the team, setting up for the day. Followed by problem solving for the current project, and collaborating where appropriate. There are a few social calls and/or corporate meetings throughout the week, as well as weekly syncs for areas common to myself and others. Sometimes there are technical expertise calls with interesting developments about cutting edge research.

  • SystemVerilog aptitude. Working as part of a team. Communication skills. Project specific tool usage. Scripting languages (TCL). Business Insight. Corporate Structure. Miscellaneous technical knowledge (PCIe, Avalon Interfaces).

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of responsibility. The work you do is important and valued by the team. This said, there is plenty of support available if you get stuck, and it is understood that you can't always be expected to produce work alone. You will work to produce stuff for large projects that will be used by the team and/or external customers.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of support from my assigned mentors, as well as the wider team and my line manager. They are all happy to answer questions and help solve problems you have. Your mentor is your main point of contact and collaborator on a lot of the projects.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Excellent collaboration atmosphere. Friendly and inclusive culture for all people. Superb communication about the companies activities to its employees helps provide this.

  • Be concise and consistent. Focus on soft skills, technical knowledge, and extra-curricular activities rather than grades. Don't be afraid to ask questions of anyone, and prepare questions beforehand too!
