    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot of responsibility. You have a manager but this is for any support/guidance where needed. It is up to you to manage your diary, seek tasks and learn from what you do not know. You are treated like a full-time employee from day 1 and can hold just as much responsibility

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 4/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I felt more training and support could be given (for my role at least). This is something that needs to be improved on - you are left to learn yourself which sometimes can be great but ultimately there needs to be a structure in place which was lacking.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 3/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 4/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A very inclusive culture that strives to learn it all, not know it all. Culture is a large part of the company and is integrated into everything you do. The atmosphere is very fast paced which is to be expected for a large technology company

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the social opportunities?
  • 4/5

  • How would you rate the diversity initiatives?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My internship was completely virtual for 12 months due to Covid-19 so my enjoyment is definitely lower than it should have been, however this is not down to the company. It was made the best it could be despite all the restrictions. I learnt a lot and will take my internship as a very valuable experience.

  • Please rate the future employment prospects at Microsoft

  • 7. Would you recommend Microsoft to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Microsoft
  • Do as much research into the company as you can - don't underestimate how important culture is. Technical experience will always be an advantage but (depending on the role) not always necessary. It much better to have the right mindset than to know everything about the different software and technical capabilities honestly. They don't want people that know everything already - be prepared to learn and show that
