Summer Scheme student, development Review

I thought that the people working in my office were very welcoming and assisted me very well whenever I had questions with the work I had been given. I was also given a good amount of work to do which meant that I was always busy. However I would have liked the variety of work to be slightly different however this may have been due to the limited amount of tasks that someone of my skill level was able to complete.

I felt welcome at the firm and comfortable with the people around me. I was taken out for lunch with some of the other people on the graduate scheme who included me in converstation and were very much willing to answer any of the questions i had about working for Savills or doing the APC qualification. I felt that I was given work that added value to the firm which I thoroughly enjoyed doing as I knew I was helping the team.

I was assisted wherever I needed help and never felt bad for asking questions on the tasks I was given. The assistance that I was given was very helpful in allowing me to understand a given task and when I asked a question it was answered very quickly so that I wasn't left hanging around doing nothing. It wasn't just a select few people that i could ask questions to as I felt that I could ask anyone in the office.

The skills I learned during my time were mainly research based tasks such as work on comparable properties using different methods to find properties. This will be useful for my valuation module next year and beyond as I have a much greater ability to conduct a more thorough research of properties. My work on due diligence gave me a better understanding of the valuation process. Shadowing site visits gave me an insight into client relations and the factors to take into consideration when conducting a site visit.

Considering the situation with COVID, the insight was structured from the zoom talks throughout the week as well as having a very good mentor who was able to properly assist me. I always had something to do and never felt that they had run out of tasks so that i could get the most out the of the short time that i was in the office for. I was also given a parking permit so that my expenses were covered.

The office had a friendly atmosphere and there was often a lot of conversation. However I did not feel that the liveliness hindered my ability to concentrate on my work. There were not as many people in the office as there typically would be in a normal week due to COVID however the office atmosphere was never dull or boring as there was always someone on the phone dealing with clients which added to a more lively atmosphere.
