    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the one week internship with Savills. It was really helpful to have an insight into what the different departments do and the different pieces of work they undertake. It was good to explore a regional office. I enjoyed the site visit - it was hugely helpful to see the desk work live. Subsequently I was able to then assist with the desk work and write up the report which was fantastic.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very much so - I was able to attend a range of meetings - both client meetings, internal meetings and team meetings. I was also able to attend a site visit prior to assisting with a valuation for the site. I was also given some other desk tasks - such as comparable evidence and report preparation. Subsequently I undertook some initial due diligence checks such as EPC, Flooding and Council Tax investigations. These were tasks which were valued by the team. It was really useful to gain feedback on the work I completed - this really helped me to further my understanding of the work undertaken. At times I was able to carry out my own research - either looking at current properties or research regarding graduate careers and the APC.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was given some guidance through the week. This was in response to my questions or work carried out. This was from either the graduate in the team or the associate director who I shadowed through the week. I really valued any feedback and advice I was given especially considering the office was particularly quiet through the week. I was given guidance and advice when I asked questions which was helpful as it has helped me to further my understanding of the industry.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Very much so - some of the tasks I covered on my placement, I also cover at Uni. Having completed these tasks in a professional environment with live examples will really help to consolidate my understanding of these topics prior to the return to uni. In terms of beyond, I asked lots of questions regarding the different options available as a graduate which was so helpful. This will ensure I make the best choice when selecting and applying to grad schemes.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well structured, in terms of there was a number of talks over zoom from people who work in other areas of the business. This was really helpful as it gave further insight into other areas and options for the future and also helped me to gain an understanding of not only the services Savills offer but also the area which I feel is most suited to me longer term. It would have been really good to have the opportunity to undertake some more site visits but I understand that Covid-19 makes these rather challenging.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was good. Especially on my first day, everyone was welcoming and approachable. On the whole people were happy to chat and give advice and help with tasks and general questions. It was slightly different as lots of people were working from home and therefore the office was fairly empty. I think overall it was really good considering the circumstances. It would have been ideal if there were a few more meetings and site visits.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My mentor invested some time to talk me through a task I was working on. The team secretary was great at offering tasks and help with day to day things. I did find myself asking for more work at times but also took the time to conduct my own research on current projects. I really enjoyed the zoom talks from the range of people in different departments -these were hugely useful to ensure a further understanding of the different options available.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I think it is difficult to assess this after just 5 days in this office. The tasks I completed were admin type tasks on the whole. Therefore the tasks I would be undertaking with a full time role would be slightly different. The insight helped me to understand about the atmosphere of the company and office. The new graduate in the team was fantastic at explaining his route into the firm - this was hugely appreciated.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As above the insight did help me to understand the office atmosphere. In terms of the company culture - not so much because I was in a regional office and did feel quite cut off from the main company hub. It was helpful to speak to employees from a range of levels - this ensured a further understanding of the company and office makeup which was really helpful to see. I think has there been more people in the office I would have observed the teamwork element more.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was really valuable as it has helped me to narrow down what I would like to do longer term. The range of talks from people was really helpful to have a further insight into other options and avenues to explore. It was really good to speak to members of different departments in order to understand the options. I think it would have been really good to have the opportunity to experience working in different departments but with it just being one week this is challenging.
